Presentation
Magic: The Gathering (MTG) was created by Richard Garfield and has been published by Wizards of the Coast since 1993. Two players duel, each starting at 20 life, wielding creatures, spells and artifacts powered by mana. It's the go-to game for strategists who love building and refining their decks.
Collection system
Every card displays a rarity symbol on its artwork. The Standard format, which keeps rotating with the latest sets, is ideal for getting started while staying close to the current metagame.
Common (C)
The most common cards, about 10 per draft booster.
Uncommon (U)
A bit rarer, on average 3 per draft booster.
Rare (R)
Gold symbol, the backbone of most constructed decks.
Mythic (M)
Orange-red symbol, the most powerful and sought-after cards, about 1 in 8 boosters.
Basic Land
Always present in every booster, not subject to the 4-copy-per-deck limit.
Magic: The Gathering takes place across a multiverse of worlds called "planes," connected by immensely powerful travelers named Planeswalkers. Each plane has its own identity: Dominaria, the game's birthplace, Ravnica and its ten guilds, Innistrad and its gothic horror, or Zendikar and its ruins. The mana that powers spells comes in five colors (white, blue, black, red, green), each embodying a different philosophy of play and worldview. For over thirty years, novels, comics and every new set have deepened this mythology through the stories of the Planeswalkers and the conflicts that run through the multiverse.
Here are the basics to play your first duel.
-
1. Build your deck
Minimum 60 cards, maximum 4 copies of a given card (basic lands excluded), at least 20 lands.
-
2. Choose your colors
5 mana colors: White (order), Blue (control), Black (sacrifice), Red (aggression), Green (massive creatures). Start with 1 or 2 colors.
-
3. Start the game
Each player starts at 20 life and draws 7 cards.
-
4. Play your turn
Play a land, use your mana to cast spells and creatures, then attack with your available creatures.
-
5. Win the game
Reduce your opponent's life to 0, or force them to draw from an empty deck, to win.
